Frequently Asked Questions
What types of dumbbells are compatible with Kettle Gryp?
Kettle Gryp has been designed to fit almost all dumbbell styles. It is compatible with nearly all dumbbells that have a bare metal handle. If the width between the weights is too narrow, or if the diameter of the handle is too large, then it may not fit. Please scroll down to see the detailed Compatibility Guide following the FAQ on this page.
Will Kettle Gryp fit on my vinyl or neoprene coated dumbbells?
It is best to measure the hand grip diameter first, since most vinyl or neoprene coated dumbbells have a grip larger than 1.5" diameter (4.7" circumference), which is too thick for Kettle Gryp. Please scroll down to see the detailed Compatibility Guide following the FAQ on this page.
Will Kettle Gryp fit on my Bowflex SelectTech 552 adjustable dumbbells?
Kettle Gryp will fit the SelectTech 552, although it will be a little bit snug. For best results, press the Gryp together near the logo and then push down on the top of the latch. Please scroll down to see the detailed Compatibility Guide following the FAQ on this page.
Will Kettle Gryp fit on my Bowflex SelectTech 1090 adjustable dumbbells?
Kettle Gryp will fit the SelectTech 1090 as long as the largest (inner) weight plate is not selected. There is interference between the Gryp and the inner weight plate. Please scroll down to see the detailed Compatibility Guide following the FAQ on this page.
Does the Kettle Gryp feel exactly like a kettlebell?
No. There is a small difference in weight distribution between kettlebells and dumbbells. However, we've designed Kettle Gryp to function as closely as possible to a kettlebell. Some people will feel a difference and some won't.
Will the weight of the Kettle Gryp affect my workout?
It shouldn't. Weighing less than a pound, the Kettle Gryp combined with a dumbbell should feel about the same weight as the dumbbell alone. This also makes it extremely portable and handy for travel.
How heavy of a dumbbell can I use with Kettle Gryp?
We recommend using Kettle Gryp with dumbbells up to 55 lbs.

Kettle Gryp Dimensions
Detailed dimensions for Kettle Gryp are shown in the diagram. Please refer to the following sections for additional information about dumbbell compatibility.
-
Dumbbell Handle Width
Kettle Gryp is designed to fit the majority of dumbbells on the market. However, there are a few exceptions. The Dumbbell handle width needs to be at least 4.5" wide. Most dumbbell handles are 6.0" wide, however some very light dumbbells may be less than 4.5" wide.
-
Dumbbell Handle Diameter
The dumbbell handle diameter needs to be less than 1.5” at its thickest point. The foam insert inside the Kettle Gryp will contour to both straight and curved dumbbell handles as long as the thickest part of the dumbbell handle is less than 1.5”.
-
Dumbbell Shape
Some dumbbells with large or odd shaped weights may interfere with the handle of the Kettle Gryp. Although the handle of the Kettle Gryp is a snug fit, the Bowflex SelectTech 552 will fit with no interference from any of the weight plates. Note that the Bowflex SelectTech 1090 will interfere with the Kettle Gryp only when the largest inner weight plates are selected.
